Tanning, all the must do’s, the don’t do’s and everything in between.

Firstly, whether you are a first time tanner or a long lived tanner-holic. The same rules apply to everyone. Prep work, prep work an I repeat…Prep work! It is absolutely detrimental for getting a beautiful and even tan (I know this is being dramatic, but you would be surprised at how often people do nothing expecting the best results and well… not getting it and blaming the therapist, which is not very nice is it?)

So what do you need to do for great prep? The recommended body soaps for skin prep three days prior to tan and a really thorough skin scrub the night prior, you can get very creative with this, using anything from a coffee scrub, coconut scrub or those mittens everyone loves. For after care there is the recommended body lotion that will keep building on the tan and keep the life of the tan up to a week if not more when applied regularly.

Once you have the tan applied, we ask you to stay nice and dry for the recommended time for the tan to really get into your skin leaving you with a beautiful “Sun Kissed” look. So no sweating…. Also we would prefer for you to stay in a star fish position if possible as even just playing on our phones can create an uneven star shaped look in the crooks of our elbows. If that does happen because lets be honest everyone loves social media, I know I do! Just use a dry towel and dab it back into a nice smooth look. Do not rub or wipe it.

It is super important to make sure not to use any soaps or shampoos when removing the tan as the PH levels can strip the tan super quick leaving you looking weirdly patchy. Literally just water and your hand is needed for the removal. Stay in the shower until the water runs clean of your skin, definitely pat dry and do a full 360 of your body to ensure no tan has been left behind as it will keep developing in that super sexy line up your back, side or even behind those lovely ears of yours. If you do find anything left behind, please, please get back into that shower and get rid of it, we want even tans around here people!

Also ensure that all shaving is done the day prior, as shaving will take away the layer on which the tan sits… Again this is not good, for anyone involved. It is also in your best interest to make sure that you wash and condition your hair the night before, that way you are fresh and clean for the events a head and no need to worry about stripping you tan off.

Fantastic little tip to ensure that you get a nice even tan is to remove it under a cold shower… Now I know it doesn’t sound pleasant at all as everyone enjoys luxuriating in a warm shower now and again, but with warm water it relaxes the pores of the skin, which means the tan enters these pores, leaving a fake “blackhead” look, where as you have a cold shower, it keeps the pores contracted which stops the tan from entering the pores and will once again leave you with a beautiful even tanned look.
Enjoy that beautiful natural feel of our tans!
