The Myth – Lash Extensions damage your natural eyelashes

By August 13, 2020No Comments

Please, can someone pay us a dollar for every time that we hear this. We would still be in the lash business but we would be much better off.

We hear this almost daily, the phrase “I have been getting lash extensions and after the first time, my natural eyelashes look terrible. It must be the extensions.”

I’m sorry but this is going to hurt some people. The truth is, it is not the lash extensions, it is the technician. Yep! We said it. There is no easy way to say this but it is.

Damage to your natural lashes is from incorrect placement, styling, technique and sizing of your lash extensions. Just because you want big long thick natural lashes, does not mean that your natural lashes will handle that look and your lash technician SHOULD NOT be putting them onto your natural lashes.

When it comes to lash extensions, it is not one size fits all. Your lash extensions should not be more than 2mm longer than your natural lashes and the sizing of the lashes also play a huge part. If your lash extensions are longer than this, when they grow out, they will place all their weight towards the end of the lash and start to cause pressure onto the follicle of your natural lash. This is the important part……

The more you damage your natural eyelash follicles, the less chance you have of them growing back until the point they they will stop growing back altogether.

We understand that everyone that everyone wants a different look. You can still achieve this by being safe. There are different curls, types of lashes, lengths and thicknesses that can help you achieve the look that you are wanting. The main point is………doing it safely.

You will no longer be able to get eyelash extensions if you damage your natural eyelashes.

Your eyelash technician is responsible for your safety so it is important to really check out their work. Ask them loads of questions. A cheap lash technician that will do anything for you, may not be the best option for you. You want a technician that has been trained, re-trained and re-trained some more. Yes cheap helps your back pocket, but how long until your back pocket is paying double or triple the price trying to fix what has gone wrong.

Remember: you will no longer be able to get eyelash extensions if you damage your natural eyelashes.

The next thing that you need to worry about it isolation. Each individual eyelash extensions is placed onto each and every safe natural eyelash. If you do not isolate each individual natural lash properly, they could stick to one or more natural lash together, we call these “stickies”. What happens then is that your natural lashes may be growing at different rates. One may be growing quicker than the other. When that happens, it will cause pain along your natural lash line.  How do we fix this……they all have to come off unfortunately. Leaving them on there will continue to cause pain and if left too long, may cause damage to your natural eyelash follicle. What happens when you damage your natural eyelash follicle?

You will no longer be able to get eyelash extensions if you damage your natural eyelashes.

There is a quick and easy way to know if you have gotten the best set of lash extensions. It is really simple to remember and trust me, you will think of it every time you blink.

If you can feel your lash extensions, there is a chance that they have not been put on properly. If they are clumping, or you can see glue along the lash extensions, there is a chance they have not been put on properly. If your natural eyelashes hurt or sting, there is a chance they may not have been put on properly.

Invest time in researching your lash technician and asking them questions. Money is not the driving factor for wanting lash extensions. The driving factor is the look and styling that you want. As with many things in life, you pay for what you get. You are paying a lash technician for their experience, knowledge and most of all, the fact that they look after and care for you and your natural lashes.
